The short answer
The Hunter's Moon is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. In 2026 it peaks at 04:12 UTC on October 26, just after midnight on the US East Coast and still Sunday evening further west. It sits in Taurus, opposite a Scorpio Sun. Some sources call it a supermoon, stricter ones don't. And the dream part: it's Halloween week, so what you watch and play before bed matters more than the moon does.

What does the Hunter's Moon light up for your sign? β
All 12 signs, with the sky computed for this month and what to watch for in your dreams.
Why It's Called the Hunter's Moon
The name is older than any calendar app. After the Harvest Moon, the fields were cleared, deer were fattening up for winter and easier to spot, and the moon still rose soon after sunset. That gave hunters extra evening light to track game before the cold set in.
It is a working name, like the Harvest Moon before it: named for what the light let people do, not for how it looks.
Is It a Supermoon? Half the Internet Says Yes
It depends who you ask, and that isn't a dodge. Some almanacs count it: by their definition this moon is about 6% wider and 13% brighter than an average full moon. Stricter definitions, like the one BBC Sky at Night Magazine uses, count only three supermoons in 2026: January 3, November 24 and December 24.
Either way, you won't see the difference by eye. If you want the real thing, the December 24 Cold Moon is the closest full moon of the year.
The Hunter's Moon in Taurus: What the Sign Adds
A full moon always sits opposite the Sun. On October 26, 2026 the Sun is in Scorpio, so the Hunter's Moon lands in Taurus.
Scorpio is traditionally the sign of endings, secrets and what's buried, which is why astrologers have always found it fitting that it covers Halloween. Taurus is its opposite: the body, the house, what you own and what makes you feel safe. A Taurus full moon opposite a Scorpio Sun is read as the pull between holding on and letting go.
Take that as a lens, not a forecast. Astrology is a framework for reflection, not a force acting on you, and we won't pretend otherwise here.

Halloween Week: Do Horror Movies and Games Give You Nightmares?
This is the week people binge horror, so it's the question worth answering honestly.
Dreams borrow from the day. Researchers call it the continuity hypothesis, and what you watch is part of your day. In a 2004 study of secondary-school students, Jan Van den Bulck found nightmares were linked to television far more often than to computer games: about 26% reported TV-related nightmares, against under 8% for games.
Games may even help some people. Psychologist Jayne Gackenbach found frequent gamers report more lucid dreams and more control inside their dreams. Her "nightmare protection" idea, that gamers are less shaken by nightmares, held mostly for heavy-playing men. Heavy-playing women in her 2008 study reported the most troubling nightmares, so it isn't a free pass.
The honest takeaway: horror you watch tends to stick harder than horror you play. If you're prone to nightmares this week, put a gap between the scary thing and sleep.
Hunter's Moon Dreams: What They Tend to Circle
There is no fixed meaning for "a dream on the Hunter's Moon," and anyone selling you one is guessing. But late October has its own weather in dreams:
- Someone in the house. Intruder dreams tend to show up when something in waking life feels like it's crossing a boundary. What a house dream means β
- Being chased. The most common anxiety dream there is, and Halloween week hands it plenty of material. Being chased β
- The dead visiting. DΓa de los Muertos is days away, and holidays are when people who are gone are most on our minds, which is exactly what dreams draw from. Talking to the dead β
- Teeth and the body. Taurus is the body sign, and teeth dreams are the classic body-anxiety dream. Teeth falling out β
How to Actually Use the Night
- Look up Sunday evening, October 25. The peak is just after midnight Eastern, so for most of the US the evening before is the best view, low and huge over the horizon.
- Write it down before you move. Dream recall collapses within about 90 seconds of waking. A phone note beside the bed beats any plan to remember later.
- Put an hour between horror and sleep. The research above is the whole reason.
- Notice what keeps coming back. One dream is noise. The same dream three times is a pattern worth looking at.
